(via AnnArbor.com)

I’m an Ypsilanti guy. I wear that badge (as many of us do) pretty proudly. I am a member of the growing community that can see the budding artist’s haven that our town is becoming, and the opportunity for business growth that can usually follow in it’s path. There is a blending of cultures across the city, and a diversity that is hard to put into words. I think maybe that is why photographer Erica Hampton is trying to put it into photos.

A Quick Overview
The Ypsi Project is a photo journal of sorts, compiling the people, places, and things that make up the city of Ypsilanti. A quick stroll through the official blog, or the project’s flickr page will give you an idea of the types of things that have been catching the lens around town. Pets, people at work and even an entire patrol of state troopers leaving The Bomber all make an appearance so far in this work in progress.

Would you like to be added to the project?
An event has been planned for this Saturday at Bombadill’s Cafe on MIchigan Ave in Ypsilanti. From 10 a.m.-7 p.m., the photography team will be on hand to try and reach their goal of 147 more portraits for the project. If you live or work in Ypsilanti, they want you to stop by for a free portrait, and hang out with a great cup of coffee while you take in what the project is all about.

If you are unable to make the event but still want to be included, I would suggest reaching out to Erica Hampton yourself. She seems (much like myself) to have a love for all things that fall under the social media realm and can be contacted in a variety of ways.

Why should I be a part of this?
Because cool projects and causes are starting to pop up all over Ypsi and you want to be a part of something cool. Also, you’ll look darn good in a free portrait and can have a nifty new picture for all of your profile pictures. Lastly, it feels good to do something good for people that are doing good for a city that is blossoming into something good.

Awesome, awesome, awesome write-up on AnnArbor.com about this Saturday’s Ypsi Project event! Seriously, Kyle (the author) is a super talented writer and obviously has a real love for Ypsilanti.

This artical had Erica and I cheesing out. Please help spread the word! We have one day left to help promote the event :) Hope to see you there. ♥

Sometimes you get too wrapped up. You get lost in thought, can’t think about anything other than the thorn in your side, and eventually you get sick of your own self.

I know, I’ve been there, and I’m sure a lot of others have, too. I took these photos back in December when I needed to shake some things off. Now, after enough time has gone by, I feel good. I don’t regret things in life, everything bad and good that you experience makes you who you are, and I like who I am. Sometimes you have to just shut the hell up and shake it off.

Ypsi Project : Looking Out Of the Barrel of the Prospect...

Ypsi Project : Looking Out Of the Barrel of the Prospect Cannon (via ericarhiannon)

This is the cannon that sits in Prospect Park on Prospect in Ypsi. Mark Maynard wrote a post about the Ypsi Project on his blog and lots of people made great suggestions as to what they would like to see photographed. This was one of them. I poked around a little bit to see if I could find out why the cannon is there. I’m just going to quote a paragraph that I found in an online book, Traveling Through Time. “In 1842 this site became Ypsilanti’s second cemetary, and at one time approximately 250 people were buried there. However, when Highland Cemetary opened in 1864, the use of this site began to decline. Inspired by a nationwide parks movement, in 1891 a group of women began working to convert the by-then-neglected cemetery into the cities first park. Funds were raised, the remaining bodies moved, the grounds were graded, tress were planted and walks were installed. Luna Lake, with it’s rustic fountain, was built. Completed in 1893, Prospect Park became known for it’s floral carpet beds and it’s bandstand and dance pavilion. In 1902 a coastal defense cannon was purchased from Fort McCleary, Maine, and erected here. The park became an object of renewed community pride after a 1982-84 rejuvenation project. “

2,000 Miles Apart : Waiting (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Waiting (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Mike’s Picture is Lame (via...

2,000 Miles Apart : Mike’s Picture is Lame (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Fisher Theatre Bathroom (via...

2,000 Miles Apart : Fisher Theatre Bathroom (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Up Early (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Up Early (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Tired (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart : Tired (via ericarhiannon)

2,000 Miles Apart
